JAAN QURBAN by Mika Singh
DRecords to launch another hit by Mika Singh with his pop album “Jaan Qurban” releasing worldwide
Amrik Singh, known by his stage name Mika Singh was born at Durgapur, West Bengal and trained in music by his elder brother, the King of Pop “Daler Mehndi”.
Mika Singh was positioned as the ‘Bad Boy’, the out of control Punjabi boy in the music industry with his super successful album “Gabru”, produced by Daler Mehndi and released under DRecords.
Another collection of girlfriend pleasers, blending low-tempo ballads and catchier tracks like the title song, the lad cranks up enough energy to whip up a pop squall, if not quite the tempest his nickname Out of Control Punjabi Boy would suggest. It oozes good taste and rigorous professionalism. Surely, Mika may not tout the hippest sound in town, but for sheer ground-breaking quality and off-the-wall ideas in mixing international sounds like hip-hop, reggae, rap, house and bhangra, it’s got to be one of the freshest Indian albums for a very long time.
It’s a blend of different styles that shouldn’t work, but come together brilliantly. By turns, this is a funky hip shaker, a club floor-filler and a thumbs-in-belt-loop head rocker. It should be a mess of clashing clack, but you’re left wondering why all albums aren’t as innovative and exciting as this. Surely, Mika is one of those bhangra poppers who almost always live up to their hype. And Jaan Qurban explains why. Mika mixes in some hard, sexy house with a hefty dollop of the disco past and funky, techno future. Not just another rap, rock and bhangra pop fest, this album is an instant party.
